Hello, we have a Tex phaser 850DP that has started to jam when the paper is about half way to 3/4 of the way out. I cant tell what is causing it. Rarley the page will completely output but it seems the ink is sticking to the drum and it "chatters" on the page and the prints are missing ink. I have run the clean utility, tried different paper, disasembled and cleaned all rollers I could see but still have the same prob. It seems worse when a print out with a lot of color compared to a black and white text page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Jon

Take the maintenance tray out and look on both sides at the lift pins (these are the pins that stick thru the tray and lift the maintenance roller up to the drum) there is one on each side. They should not be notched, if they are you will need a new tray, you can get one directly from Xerox. The other thing I have seen cause the printer to sound like the ink is ripping off the drum is 3rd party ink.

CULTOFLON:

When I look at the maint. tray, I see two black plastic pins sticking out of each side of the tray. They look like this (looking headon to the tray)

Is that the notch you are talking about? If so, how does that notch play a role in the jamming problem?

Thanks for your help on this, I appreciate it.

Aw crap....thats not how it looked in preview....I don't know how else to explain the pins that I see. I believe there is a notch in them.

If the pins are notched oil will not transfer to the drum. This causes the ink to stick to the drum causing jams. The oil from the maintenance kit is what keeps the ink from sticking to the drum. It sounds like you need to replace the maintenance tray.

Hey,

Thanks, I have ordered the maintanence tray. We'll see how it goes when I get it.

Thanks again.

I'm shocked that no one bothered to mention either the Drum Maint Clutch, or Transfix solenoid. The Drum Maint clutch is located on the left side, near the bottom. You can identify it by the Antirotation collar, that sits between the DM clutch and Paper Pick Clutch. If the AntiRotation is White, that means tou have the older style DM Clutch. I have seen a failing DM clutch cause these jams. (As you're looking at the collar, the DM clutch is the one on the left). If the Collar is red, then you have the new style. (Note: On the 860 & 8200 this collar is blue).

Also cauing these jams is a sticky Transfrix Solenoid. This is on the upper right side, behind the metal plate. The rubber pad gets sticky, and causes the arm to stay in a raised position, allowing the transfix roller to rotate beyond what it should. You can take this plate off, and put a piece of tape over the rubber pad. Be sure to slean the arm where it makes contact with the pad.

As far as the notches in the Drawer pins, Xerox recommends that they are no deeper than the thickness of a dime. If this is the case, you should replace the drawer. Also, inside the printer is a set of arms (Cam Followers) that make contact with these pins, allowing the oil roller to lift. Xerox has a replacement for these arms, that is suppose to help slow down the wear on the drawer pins. You might want to consider replacing these as well.

Part numbers if you need them.

650-4288-00 New Style Drum Maint Clutch
367-0515-01 New Cam Followers (you'll need 2)

Hope this helps.

Time will tell when I re deploy it back to the user and he starts rockin out some volume on the printer. It all looked good from the test orints I did. Everyones help is much appreciated.
