Hello All,
I've been using the solid ink printers from Tektronix's production period for many years and loved them. Only complaints – Phaser 840 hopelessly noisy at idle and colors not printing accurately in OS X (possibly because there's no OS X ColorSync profile for the 840).
Having looked over sample prints from the 8550, output seems less raised, less "tactile" – supplier associates this with improved ink wear and handling through copiers.
This refinement nevertheless greatly reduces the very distinctive result solid ink can produce. Prints don't look as generous as they do from the earlier printers
Its perhaps a moot point now as there's no alternative (curse you Tektronix for selling off the technology along with free black ink), but would any seasoned users of the newer solid ink printers say Xerox has generally lessened the quality of these printers?
Presumably they are now made in China, and hopefully near silent at idle.
