I'm in the process of a migration of 2000 to 2003 server and these users have invalid filenames. Some are a mile long and others have illegal characters. to top it off they've set their own permissions to files and directories.

Can't take ownership due to syntax on 1000's of files, can't copy cause of the long filenames and can't zip due to file/folder permissions.

Anyone know of a way out of this?

Hi karmic,

Use your backup solution, e.g. Veritas Netbackup, arcserve, etc.

Backup, then restore with full security permissions.

Have done that already but it's driving me nuts that I can't get this fixed. The employees are going to get emails on monday.
