I'm making an attempt at installing gzip on my solaris7 machine and it requires cc to compile (obviously). So I do my ./configure and it says that cc is not found. It turns out that there is a language optional package that was not installed. "so" says I, "I'll just go get gcc and install it". Well, it turns out that there is no version that I can find of gcc that is not in a .gz format. I have looked all over the place and cannot find one. Does anyone know where I can find just a .tar file of it or where I can find the same of a cc file so that it can be reinstalled? Any help would relieve a very frustrated person. Thanks much.

ok...i have that, now what do I do with it? I don't think i've come across something like this before.

Hey,
U can check which packages are installed in u'r system with pkginfo command and before installing gzip package just confirm whether this package is already installed or not.
