TEAMING SERVER ADAPTERS

After careful analysis of our Novell 4.2 server we found the network adapter as the bottleneck. Someone suggested the use of Intel's Server Adapters in the server, connect them to a switch with link aggregation "on" and the network throughput can be increased.
Can anybody suggest the step-by-step method to configure the same? Also are there any other adapters (apart from Intel'S) that support these features?
