Good Afternoon everyone

We're grown quite a bit and are needing to have our DBAs specialize on different aspects of Database Administration.

Does anyone have any documentation on a team setup with some job description break downs... ie) System DBA / Application DBA /etc???

Any help would be great

Thanks

Thanks in advance!!!

The general consus is that dbas are seperated into operations and development.

Ops is day to day operations (backups, restores, tuning, usernames and passwords, ect)

Development would be helping to write stored procs, database design, transitioning from one enviornment to the next. helping with tuning. tuning is split. Alot of times, its done by both since it can be tricky.

Now they can have areas they specalze in. I met one dba who is the god of dts packages. I met another who spent all his time writing tools for the other dbas at the company to use. Now dont forget you want to keep them crosstrained. you wouldnt want all your prod dbas to go to lunch and all get sick then not have anyone to cover for them...

Sams sqlserver 2000 dba survival guide's first chapter is on the role of the dba. it breaks down most of it. Someone there should have a copy of it.
