TDM over IP

I have a G3r version 8 and 8 EPN's. I am looking for a solution to connect my EPN's accross a data network. I have been told the only way to do this is to use TDM over IP.

Is there anyone out there that is doing this and can tell me if it is working ok on the G3r? I did a search in the posting to see if this question has been brought up before. There was one post but know one responded to it.

How many DS1-C links are you using per cabinet?

6 have 1 DS1-C and two have 2 DS1-C's.

What type of data is in place between the sites? It sounds like they are smaller sites which may only have 3MB of data. If that is the case, you would be removing a voice t-1 only to add a data t-1 because of the bandwidth added. Add in the t-1 cards for the routers, and it could be a not so good idea. I've been fearful of placing the 1st 2 facilities on TDM over IP since they do the signalling for the cabinet (but I've never tried). We've have enough problems with timing issues on straight t-1's through lec's, Im not sure IP would work. The C & D facilities however are only used as bearer channels and quality permitting, I wouldn't have any problem sending those over IP (once again assuming you have a lot of extra bandwidth that was given to you for free via Pixie Dust )

Rather than IP is ATM a possibility? It would involve changing all of the Port Networks to ATM and eliminating the Center Stage Switch.

I think the whole point is to save $. An ATM upgrade (if they'll even sell it at this point) for an R should be over $100K for a switch that size.

The reason I am interested in doing TDM over IP is because we are about to purchase 10mb fiber data links to all of our sites. I was wanting to move my voice traffic to the data connection and get rid of the voice T-1 costs.

I was hoping that someone might have some advise about this before I bought a pair of TDM over IP moduals.

Well for that, I'd look at upgrade to the S8700 IP connect setup..

This way all intra/inter port network traffic is IP from the switch via the medpro and clan boards..
