Our corporate HQ has a Panasonic TDA600 PBX, and a remote office has a Panasonic TDA200 PBX - both have the IP Gateway card for VoIP. On both sides, the next hop of the PBX is a sonicwall firewall, and the second hop is the Internet Provider's router.

The branches are connected via VPN with a sonicwall device.

When either end places a call to the other, the phone rings, and the correct extension shows up on the caller ID. But every time, after about 20 seconds, the connection drops to dial tone.

Panasonic swears the PBXs are set up correctly.
The sonicwall folks say the VPN tunnel between the 2 branches is wide open policy-wise.
There is plenty of bandwidth (HQ has one partial and one full T1, and the branch has ADSL).

Anyone experience something like this?

Remove sonic wall and test, will quickly eliminate or finger the Sonic wall.

We're in the process of reconfiguring the PBXs after placing them in front of the sonicwalls. Is it safe to leave them public?

Bypassed the sonicwalls, and it works fine.

yes its safe to leave it public if you dont use a network card to program it ie if you program it with the usb port.

in tunk groups you need to turn off tone detection.
3.1.1 second tap for Tone detection. Disable for silence, continuous and cyclic. See if that doesn't fix it.
