TD816 and Programmator hookup

Successfully connected and programmed vm via PC to TVS50 using Voice Mail Master. But cannot get connected to the TD816 using Progammator; I am using a SmartCable for the serial and I receive SMDR output into Hyperterminal, so I am sure the serial physical connection is OK.

Settings are, 8-1-mark, 9600, per the book and confirmed in the present system settings.

Any thoughts?
BTW, I see KX-A281 PSM software for "Managing and Programming your Panasonic Digital Telephone System." Anyone had experience with this?

this setup sounds good it should be working I would check the software

a quick way to test your cable is to connect to 816
with hyperterminal 9600,mark,8,1 no flow control
and you should see a modem init string
imediatly and then it should start spiting out raw smdr
call details .if you get giberish than you have cable
problems. as far as the programattor and voicemail master
they are a waste of money a 8X can be setup thru the keypad
if need be in a 1/2 hour !! the psm for a novice may be the way to go!!
