I must switch ip addresses of the current network from 192.168.0.x subnet mask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.x.x.x(range from dhcp on Lan)to 10.x.x.x subnet mask 255.255.0.0 (on Wan). Now, the client workstation changes are easy, but there are NT servers with sql server and also exchange server. What are the implications or problems to watch out for when switching the ip's on the servers. And how do I connect to the internet?

HI.

Here are some more catch outs:

On the server, you might wish to clear the WINS database,
and ofcourse you will need to reconfigure servers and clients with new WINS ip addresses.
You will also better setup clients with DHCP instead of manual configuration. If you create a new DHCP scope with the new subnet, it will only start working after the server own NIC will be set to that subnet.

Exchange - if it is getting emails from outside, then you must verfiy that the registered ip specified in the MX DNS record is mapped correctly.

SQL - Ask your SQL application software vendor what configuration should take place at the clients once the servcer ip address changes.

Norton Anti Virus CE - If you are using this product or similar, you will need to deploy the new GRC.DAT after changing server ip address. See vendor specific instructions.

Network printers - If you have TCP/IP printers or print servers, don't forget to reconfigure them as well, and the port on clients or servers that use those printers.

Internet connection - ask the admin of your router/firewall and/or your ISP for cooperation in the change.

In general - you shoul schedule enough network down time for the changes.

Bye
