I have Toshiba Laptop 445CDT that Im trying to add to home network. I have installed PCMIA NIC, and network adapter and TCP shows up fine in Control Panel. But when I run WINIPCFG, the ethernet card will not show up. Purchased USB NIC adapter, and same problem. How does one go in checking adapter adress? i have pinged 127.0.0.1 is ok, but other Ip or gateway no good.

Couple of things to check:

1: when you go to Device Manager, do you have any ? devices that could be the NIC card. Sometimes, even though they appear to be installed right, they are not. If so, do the "update drivers"

2: When you look at your network config, are there a bunch of extra cards listed, ie: Microsoft VPN, old NICs, Dial Up adapter. If there are, remove whatever cards you see that you are not using.

Hope this helps!.
