hi folks.
Two weeks ago I took a hit on my winsocks due to installing shields. I tried to corect the problem by re-installing winsock.dll and wsock32.dll in their proper directories. no good, so uninstalled TCP/IP and then tried to install it, does not work. here is the message. Could not add requested component, the error is: A non-recoverable error occured during a database lookup. What is this saying and what is it looking for. Is Tcp/ip a core component of the operating system and maybe I should have not unloaded it.

JT.....

Naw, TCP/IP is completely optional and can be unloaded & reloaded as needed. Did you reboot prior to reloading it? Scan the registry keys for anything unusual
Hkey_Local_machine/system/currentcontrolset/services/tcpip

You may try making a backup of this tree then deleting it and reinstalling.

Hi guy:

yes this key is still there. Are suggesting that I remove it and also back it up. My stupid question is how do I back this one key up. thanks JT.......

For Regedit, click the key you want to save. From the "Registry" menu, click "Export registy file...", and click the "selected branch" radio button in the dialog box.

In Regedt32, Click the "Registry" menu and select "Save subtree as"
