Having network problems at home. I have 3 computers hooked to a Linksys DSL/Cable router (nothing fancy). Having trouble from one PC which is the newest one.

Do not know if this is related but the power did go off for a second last night I know. The PC I am having trouble with is run off of a surge protector.

Running WIN98 SE. I have a Linksys NIC. The problem I am having now is I could not ping to the router 192.168.1.1, could not ping myself 192.168.1.2, or any of the other PC's. I get an error message that says (PING: transmit failed, error code 10050). I can not sign onto AOL using TCP/IP either. I put in a brand new NETGEAR NIC that I already had and still the same thing. However I can search the web and reload pages fine. The router 192.168.1.1 I can log into using the web based interface,
I do not really know where to go from here so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

A couple of things..

Do you have the personal firewall installed on this computer? If so, you need to make sure the ping utility is not prohibited. Try turning off the personal firewall all together.

Also, if you lost power while the computer was on a file or two could be corrupted. You may want to remove and reinstall the TCP/IP protocol as well as the MS Winsock 2 update.

You should at least be able to ping 127.0.0.1 which is a virtual loopback adapter. If you cannot ping that you can isolate the trouble to your hardware or the driver. If you can it is most likely a settings problem. Win2000 Network Administrator
