Can anyone tell me what the advantages are to printing via TCP/IP vs. printing via the DLC protocol? We are printing via the DLC protocol now but are considering switching to TCP/IP printing? Any comments, advice, suggestions appreciated!

Thanks,
Dustin

You can do an awful lot with DLC, whereas TCP allow a wealth of configuration options.
If you're going to route your lan somewhere then you will HAVE to use TCP.
DLC is a NON routable protocol (rather like netbeui).
I'd take the option of using TCP by default as it allows for future configuration changes.

The Data Link Control (DLC) protocol is used primarily to access IBM mainframe and IBM AS/400 computers. Host terminal-emulation programs use this protocol to communicate directly with mainframe computers.

The DLC protocol is not used for general networking with Windows 98. That is to say that DLC will not be used to connect two Windows machines.

The downside to using DLC is the broadcasts it generates to find its partner machines.
