I just recently replace a bad nic card in a laptop. After a couple of bad installs, I was able to finally get it to work. I did have to reinstall Microsoft client, Novell Client, and all needed protocols with the exception of Netbeui. Everything seems to work, I see all computers on the Microsoft Network, I get connected to our Novell Server including Groupwise, I can telnet to our VAX system, I can recieve and send email. I can ping this machine from any other system or pc on the WAN/LAN. We have a firewall that can block internet access via IP but, that's not the case. I triple checked the DNS/Gateway/IP settings for fat finger entries. I can not go out on the internet and ping is not working. I reinstalled tcp/ip several times and tried reinstalling all the other network stuff. Any help or ideas before 8:30am tomorrow will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
I might be looking for work after that. [sig][/sig]

Wow... that's a tough one.

Just curious: what does ping return?

I would bet that Ping is returning some sort of error message and error number, rather than timing out. Right? Look for a folder, I believe it's in the root of C: or in C:\windows called ws2bak or something similar. Do a Find if necessary. Go into that folder and see if there is a file called ws2bak.bat. If so, select start|shutdown|restart in MS-DOS mode.
Once at the command prompt cd to the ws2bak folder and run the batchfile mentioned above. I may not have the exact folder and file names right but they should be close.

What happens is when you install the Netware client, it basically toasts your winsock files. Running that batch file will restore the original files and has never caused any problems in my experience.
