TCP/IP on AS400

Does anyone have any info on loading a TCP/IP stack on an AS400? Currently our PCs attach to the AS via a twinax connection. I believe that by loading this protocol we can do away with twinax, the expensive interface cards and controllers. Any info is greatly appreciated

TCP/IP isn't very hard to load on the AS/400 if you are working under one of the most recent levels of OS. I loaded it in about 20 minutes and had it up and running. There is a document called "TCP/IP Fastpath Setup" #sc41-3430-00 that will walk you through the whole process. One minor note however and that is that you must have some sort of connection between your AS/400 and your local network to be able to run TCP/IP.

It is not too dificult to connect the as/400 to the tcp/ip network and then doing the same with your pc's. With tn5270 or simmilar products (depending on what you are doing with the pc's) your connection to the as/400 is simplified and easier to manage (IMHO).

Oversimplified: You put an ethernet card in your AS400, configure it with a TCP/IP address on your existing network's subnet. You should have minimum of OS4.3 or 4.2 with ptf's on your AS400 and autoconfig should be on. You load the TN5250e router (Rumba 5.2, Synapse, others...). Setup your PC's TCP/IP normally on your network. Configure your emulation software to connect to your AS400's TCP/IP address. It is fast and efficient, but remember telnet is ascii and sniffable (not secure).
