I recently acquired sysguard 2009 on my XPHOME system - I don't know how, as AVG was up to date at the time. Having cleared it out, the dhcp service and various other
related service wouldn't start, giving various dependency issues. Ipconfig also produced the 'internal error' message. I reset the ip stack and winsock, but no joy. I discovered that the tcpip driver service would not start, with a 'cant find the file' message. The tcpip.sys file looked ok, but I replaced it anyway with a file from another XP system - still no joy. After searching some forums I found some instructions on how to remove and reinstall the tcpip protocol. Did this, but no change.

Before i succumb to a rebuild, is there anything else i should try?

Thanks

Geoff

The OS probably is screwed beyond hope, and I see only two alternatives at this stage...

1. How to Perform an In-Place Upgrade (Reinstallation) of Windows XP

and 2. a clean install...

Thanks for your reply

Struggled some more for a couple of weeks then succumbed
to a reinstall.

At the time of the initial infection by this rogue software "SysGuard", was the machine surfing the Internet by way of an Administrative User rather than the safer surfing practice of using a Limited User?
