Just upgraded from 5.0.5 Host to 5.0.7 Enterprise.

Want to do two things.

1) Add gateway address for server to talk out of the local LAN (192.168.254.xxx) Class C subnet.

route add default 192.168.254.254
#manually entering worked fine, adding to /etc/rc2.d/S99route failed during startup
#found that was for an older version 5.0.5/.4

#will try tonight in /etc/default/tcp (from what I find referencing 5.0.6)
GATEWAY=192.168.254.254

#am I on the right track ? Called SCO this morning to see if I can get a PDF copy of their "Networking Guide" I find the HTML version horrible to navigate.

2) Is it possible to tell my 5.0.7 to only talk to the local network (192.168.254.xxx) and the 192.168.10.xxx network in the configuration ?

My SCO support is excellent with Host, however he is not as well versed in TCP/IP configuration w/ Enterprise.

I hope this description is clear as to what I have and want, just looking for guidance in the right direction.

Thank you

P.S. I have performed a search here, to no avail in reference to this in 5.0.7

I would be really surprised if the S99route method didn't continue to work in 5.0.7. What exactly have you got in that file... and how is it not working? Is it giving you an error message at boot time?

Annihilannic.

Thank you Annihilannic for the response.

It did not produce an error message, it just did not let me ping anything outside its' subnet. As a matter of fact, I am looking at the paper I printed out yestersay and it is your post on Feb 28, 2003.

Typed in as you stated in that message,

echo "adding default route..."
route add default 192.168.254.254

Rebooted the server and still could not ping anything outside.

It appeared to have read the file on boot up.

Thanks again, any other ideas ? I will try that again tonight if the other does not work.

OK, Problem 1)resolved. I was sitting there with my SCO guy and noticed the S99route file was renamed s99route. Renamed it back and it works perfectly.

Sorry for taxing your brain for a silly mistake. Isn't that usually the case ?

Anyway, I did not hear back from the lady at SCO "said she would get back to me on where I could get a PDF version of the guide mentioned above.

I still need to tackle item 2. How to restrict my 5.0.7 machine so it can only talk to its' own x.x.254.0 network and the x.x.10.0 network.

Any ideas ? Thank you again

Thank you PH, I am looking over the man page and associated pages.

Will try to come up with something. Thank you for the guidance.
