Hi all,

I've just acquired some software to run terminal emulation over TCP/IP. It's pretty cool stuff, considering we've been using Twinax exclusively.

Anyway, just wondering about the connections on the server. When I run the NETSTAT command it shows my PC using port 23, as a TELNET client.

Is this correct? Or should it be connecting to something other than TELNET? All I'm doing with this is running terminal emulation on a local LAN.

Thanks for any insight. J.R. Juiliano

That is correct. You are telneting into the system, so you need to make sure that the telnet server is running at all times on your system. STRTCPSVR *TELNET (I believe). Mike Wills

Koldark,

Thanks much. Now that I have this I can go and also disable some other services that are not needed, like FTP and TFTP, BOOTP among others.

Thanks again.

Do be care of what you disable, some servers require others. Mike Wills

Thanks for the tip. Right now I'm going through an 825 page document on TCP/IP alone. Hopefully by the time I finish reading it I'll be able to do it all off the top of my head! ;-)

We'll just have to see. J.R. Juiliano
