Has anyone worked with TCL on an AIX machine? I can run it fine on SGI machines but AIX is giving me problems. I begin the script pointing towards the shell (#!/usr/local/bin/tclsh) but it won't recognize several commands (tk_messageBox for one). Any suggestions?

Hi Travis,

I use Tcl on AIX and also do not have the tk_messageBox command. My AIX version of Tcl is 7.4. I guess it's just not part of the release for AIX?

Hi,

tk_messageBox is not part of Tcl, it's part of Tk. The Tk commands are not loaded into the basic Tcl interpreter (tclsh). You'll need to run the Tk interpreter (wish) to load those routines.

If you still aren't able to access it from the wish shell, then let me know and there are a couple more things to check. There may be some library problems.

Thanks memurphiii...

do you know where I can download the tcl/tk package for AIX? I have the tcl/tk 8.3.3 IRIX version off scriptics.com but I'm not sure if thats what I need or not.

After a quick search I found the site that has precompiled binaries for a few versions of Tcl under AIX. I've never used them before so can't give any claims as to how easy, reliable, etc. the site maintainers are.

Beyond that, download the source for Tcl/Tk and compiling is usually not that hard to do. The instructions (contained in the source release) are fairly straight forward.

Good luck!

Ed

Thanks to all who replied, I ended up installing the general IRIX version of TK on AIX and I can now run my TCL/TK programs succesfully.
