I'm writing a Delphi 5 application and have made use of the TBookMarks. I have seen nothing untoward with these so far - but have only used them in non-critical situations. Someone has indicated to me that they should not be relied upon. Also Delphi 5 seems to give very little information on them in the Help files whereas Delphi 3 gave the details. What should I be careful of when using them in Delphi 5 or should I steer clear of using them at all ?
Thanks in advance
Steve

Steve,

I can't fully speak to the any risks associated with using them in Delphi 5.0, however, I do know that the "bookmark" concept goes well beyond BDE, which would then suggest that Borland would do well do ensure that these features work on any database.

I can tell you that BDE is being, er, de-emphasized and that the new ClientDataSet components are what you'll want to focus on. "Bookmarks" are a common concept in database engines, regardless of vendor or backend. Given this, I would expect that bookmarks are fine and the concept, if not the feature name, will be carried forward in new versions.

Also, keep in mind that you wil probably be able to use Delphi 5.0 for the next few years. Which will allow the market (and Borland) some time to figure out what the h*ll they're going to do to us front-line developers.

Hope this helps...
