Pre-Apology if anyone finds this "off topic", but I figured, here would be the best place to ask.

I did a couple of certification tracks this year, I'm poor, but with experience, so I did them all with self study material.

Even giving that, between the Self Study material, additional books, practice test and paying for the exam's themselves, I have about $3000 in to them.

Does anyone know if I can take this as a bussines expense off of my income taxes? Hint - my employer contributed 0.

Thanks,
Dan

Dane0554,

I'm not 100% sure that certification study materials would qualify as a business expense under IRS regulations (assuming that you're in the United States, which I have no way of knowing). Your best course of action is to consult with someone who is qualified to give you responsible tax advice.

Again, assuming you're in the U.S., I've written off these types of expenses as Education - as long as you have receipts.
