I know this is picky, but for some reason XP seems to handle adding tabs to the taskbar differently than all previous versions. They seem to "slide" on to the taskbar or "scroll" rather than just "pop" on or off. This additional "cutesy" animation is distracting to me. Anyone else notice it? Any way to turn it off?

Right click My Computer Icon/ Properties/ Advanced/ Performance - Settings/ Visual Effects. Depending on what setting you have checked there, there are lots of options available, including "Slide Taskbar Buttons". "Best Performance" unchecks everything, "Best Appearance" checks everything, and "Custom" is up to you to check or uncheck things.

I suppose you can hide the taskbar. Or you can go all the way and remove XP's view and return to the older classic setup, which many favour.

To Hide the Taskbar.

Right-click the Start button, and then click Properties.
On the Taskbar tab, select the Auto-hide the taskbar check box.

To redisplay the taskbar, point to the area of your screen where the taskbar is located.

If you want to be sure that your taskbar will be visible whenever you point to it, select the Keep the taskbar on top of other windows check box and also select the Auto-hide the taskbar check box. (from Help and Suppport program).

To return to Classic setup.
