I have noticed that after disconecting my USB cd re-writter the CPU usage shown in the task manager goes up to about 50% and just stays there. Even though nothing appears to be happening. If I re-start the computer all is OK.

It dosnt appear to have much effect on any running programmes but it is anoying.

Any one got any ideas how to stop it?

What process is using all of this CPU cycle? When you remove the USB device, did you do the "Safe Remove" icon approach?

It indicates that it is "system" that is using the 50-60%. The other usage is the "system idle process".
I do use the safe removal method each time.

Hope this helps with the diagnosis.

Dave

Run MSinfo32 from the Start Run box and see if you can pickup anything from that. Also have a look in the Event Viewer for any errors or problems. Are there any problems indicated in Device Manager?

Hi everyone. Thanks for the comments. There are no problems indicated in the device manager. The event viewer didnt show any errors that were relevant either!
It's all rather puzzling. Any other suggestions will be greatfully received.

Thanks again

Dave
