Hello all -

Running GW 6x

Recently, staff have praised this "ListServ" they are a part of, and wants us (me) to do the same thing for some local vendors.

What would be the best way to do this in your opinion?

I was thinking simply, create a pseudo-user w/GW account. Allow particular staff/depart., proxy access & forward the emails onward to the local vendor group of emails. However, they would like the email to show who it originally came from in the "From" field, and not list everyone in the "To" field. I think BC should take care of that.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this, and the answer is so obvious it's just waiting to slap me silly.

TIA.

There are several issues here that differentiate your GroupWise approach from a true listserve:

1) Listserves generally do not display all the recipients in the TO line. Yes, you can easily take care of this by using all BC recipients.

2) Listserves usually have automated subscribe/unsubscribe mechanisms for the members. You won't be able to do this with GroupWise.

3) A member of a Listserve (on the Internet) would be able to post messages to the listserve just as well as members inside your company. In order for this to work in GroupWise you would need to enable distribution list processing on your GWIA.

If you need to do this with GroupWise then a simple distribution list with all BC recipients (one primary recipient will need to be designated) should suffice. It won't have all the listserve features (like journaling, subscriptions, etc...) but should do adequately.

The GroupWise 4 Enhancement Pack used to have a Listserve add-on which turned a mailbox in to a Listserve, but that's not around anymore...too bad.

For a true Listserve you may want to take a look at NetMail. It will run on the same NetWare server right alongside GroupWise and even integrate with GroupWise. Cheap too!

Thanks for the reply Gioffre.

When I create a distribution list (with these external/internet email addresses) will I need to do something different? Compared to setting up a distribution list that contains only internal staff?

Thanks again.

Yes you will need to do something different as you'll notice that the only thing you can add to a distribution list are existing users, resources, or distribution lists.

That means that you will need to create entries for the Internet accounts in an external post office. The procedure is to create an external domain, create an external post office, create these external user entries and then create.modify the distribution lists.

The entire procedure to create the external domain and post office is too long to cover here but it should be listed in the GW documentation.
