Task bar turns black

Every once in a while, the task bar on my Windows XP desktop turns black for a few seconds, then returns to normal. The last time, the task bar just stayed black, and I had to reboot because neither the mouse nor the keyboard would register on anything except the start button. It doesn't happen during any particular program or function--it just seems to pick its own times. Has anyone heard of this? Got any answers? Thanks.

Look to your video drivers, see if there are any updates available.

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

If they don't work you could try repairing windows by running it over itself. You will lose all your windows updates but your files will be untouched.
