I'm trying to tar up 600,000+ files into one tar file. Total data is ~30GB.
After a little over 2GB is written, I get this error.
I feel like this might be a 2gb limitation by the filesystem, but I'm not sure.
Can someone verify this theory!

What sort of Filesystem do you have VxFs or UFS?

VxFS
# fsadm <mountpoint> - will tell you
# fsadm -o largefiles <mountpoint> - will set it

UFS
Should support largefiles by default unless specified otherwise.

You might also need the tar - option if your output file is over 8Gb

JB

vxfs by default doesn't support files >2Gb you have to switch it on explicitly. You can do it on a mounted filesystem.

# fsadm <mountpoint> - will tell you if largefiles are supported
# fsadm -o largefiles <mountpoint> - will turn on largefile support
