Hi,

i have an problem getting archive redo logs from tape.
If i do a tar -tvf /dev/rmt1 i see:
./path/arch_0000038043.arch.Z
....
...

if i want to get these files from tape i do:
tar -xvf /dev/rmt1 /path/arch_0000038043.arch.Z
The server look for a half hour and then ....nothing!!!!
just a new command prompt.
But no files restored??????

How come?

not sure but two things come to mind

One is that once you view a tape...if it is a stacked tape, it cannot go back,
so you have to do a rewind to get to the front of the tape........since it parks itself at the end of the tape....

Second....it may be in how you called the file to be restored....
absolute vs relative?

Just some thoughts...........worth a look

Another thought :

1.Try rewinding prior to restore:

mt -f /dev/rmt0 rewind

2.check errpt for rmt errors - possibly a hw problem ? "Long live king Moshiach !"

I think you probably need to replace

/path/arch_0000038043.arch.Z

with

./path/arch_0000038043.arch.Z

Hope this helps.
