Hi
I am trying to tar a file in a current directory and am unable to.

The command i have used is tar -cvf < filename > as i wish it just to be tarred up in this directory can anyone help.

So basically i guess what i am asking is how do i tar a file up.

Regards

Hi,

something like

tar cvf <filename.tar> <nameoffile>

should do the trick. Are you only tarring one file, and if so for what purpose? HTH.

Hi DBA
You are just missing tar file name. i.e your output filename

#cd /home/patel
#tar cvf mytar.tar *
