Hi all, I am a newbie when it comes to AIX, but our system uses the tar command to dump our files to an LTO tape. A few weeks back we noticed that some nights the backup does not run and when we come in that morning the process still shows up and we cannot kill it. Only way to fix it is a reboot. When I view the log file it looks as if it just locks up in the middle of copying a file, but it's not a specific file it seems random. Any ideas?
Or any way other than kill -9 (because that does not work) to kill the tar command. Once again newbie with AIX so sorry if it's a dumb question.

Thanks
