tar multiple files with 1 size

Hi!

I want to tar-gz an entire directory
with many tar.gz files of 650mo. How Can I do that?
I also want to be able to untar each file indepedently. (Cdrom backup)
file1.tar.gz 650mo
file2.tar.gz 650mo
file3.tar.gz 500mo

I'm not sure what you want, but anyway... you can tar cfz files.tgz /your/big/directory and then 'split' files.tgz into appropriate chunks, BUT you will not be able to open them independently. I don't know how to create independent archives.
 
opening them up independently is the problem here.

i don't think you can get around it, but you might want to search for cd backup scripts that might do what you want.
 
I'll ask someone in #linux and post the solution.

I'm sure its easy to do that with GNU linux. Nothing is impossible with Linux right? Except running Ms product but who cares?
