Hi,

This is probably a really stupid question but can anybody shed any light on the error message:

Back Up Error "tar 0511-173 File "filename"
Not Of Expected Length"

Thanks

Brendan

tar -cvf /dev/rmt0 /usr
That's a correct command.
Be sure your tape is rewind :
tctl -f/dev/rmt0 rewind

It is possible that you had a file called "filename" in the /usr directory which was updated between the tar command building the list to secure, and then actually securing them.

Check the /usr directory for a file called "filename" and see if there are any processes updating it (fuser filename will show you the PID's of anything accessing the file).

Hope that helps,
