We have a Nortel Norstar Modular ICS unit with an SMDR6 unit. What are the settings needed for tapit to function properly. All I am getting now is garbled info instead of clear text. I have tried several different settings but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

By different settings, do you mean baud rate?
Should be able to match up anywhere from 1200 to 115200 bps.
Just make sure they are both the same.
8 bit per char
no parity
no XON, XOFF
1 start bit
1 stop bit

check out the speed the smdr is programmed to by doing
Feature 9 * 2 -> next to printer

I useually use a pc or laptop running simple terminal emulation then you can match the speed and then you can try different bits and parity until you get an error free display for calls.

I agree with JerryReeve. Use hyperterminal to emulate a printer. This works perfectly fine for testing purposes. I believe for a MICS you have to have a baud rate of 2400+ and CICS 1200+. I think that's in the book.

Feature 9*2 will get you into the SMDR, the settings for MICS are 9600
SL-1
Report ALL

YOur Tapit should be set to SL-1
9600 Baud
