I hate to beat a dead horse about problems with the TAPI Interface, but we have not seen any workable solutions on getting it to work.

Our installation recognizes the IPOffice (i.e., in outlook it shows IPOffice Phone and the extension number), but when you try to dial a call through the Outlook or any other program interface, you get a message stating:

"The selected line or address is in use by another program or device."

No other program is open on the machines. Any suggestions? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Tapi drivers, and our vendors have no solution. Not a surprise!

Thanks.

Search some of the older posts< there are many hints there. I have always found that deleting the tapi driver from control panel and reinstalling it works sometimes.

And failing that, sprinkle the monitor with holy water and start praying in tongues. :)

Interesting development. If I go into dialing properties and add the area codes I am trying to dial into my local area but tell it to dial 1 and the area code, the system works? Any thoughts?

We have the exact same problem using Act! 6.0 with TAPI. Did anyone ever help you solve this?

We have not found an answer. Avaya is not helpful and at this point is likely going to be in a lawsuit with us for a shoddy product and installation. It is unfortunate. If anyone else on this forum has had significant problems with Avaya or any of the "Partners" please advise!

Well it works, and I have got it to work in loads of installs. Have you tried getting it to work on a clean install of windows/outlook?

It looks like a PC problem to me, and not an IP Office problem....

Since I'm so new to the IP Office (only a week with it) I'd appreciate reading some of your secrets to setting up Act! or another contact program for dialing out with XP Pro. My current problem is that the IP Office doesn't show up in the Modem / Line selection for setting up the Act Dialer. I have installed tapi and can call out using Phone Manager Pro but not in Act. I've done the install/uninstall thing and still no difference.

Thanks,
-Eric

This is your lucky day fcarmel! I have gotten the dialer to work with Act6.0 and the fix should solve your problem too since it is a Windows problem.
Our PC's are WinXP Pro and IP Office 412:
1. Open the Phone/Modem Options control panel.
2. Delete any area code rules you may have entered trying to get it to work before.
3. Create a new Calling Card, name it what you want. Only enter what I tell you to.
4. Click on the Long Distance Tab and click Destination Number.
5. Put a check mark on "Dial the Area Code". The "Dial the number" should be checked and grayed out. Leave the "Dial the Country Code" box blank.
6. Repeat for the Local Calls tab (so 10 digit dialing will work) Apply the changes. International calls probably use all three check boxes on the International Tab.
7. On the General tab, enter your local area code and 91 in the "To access an Outside line for Local calls" and also in the "To access an Outside line for long distance" box (I'm assumming you are in the US and use 9 to dial out). I haven't tried making an International call but it's probably the same setup (except maybe 9011 to get out) including the Calling card setup.

After making these changes it worked great from our contact program (Act!6.0) and we no longer have to enter each area code we want to dial as a rule - what a horrible setup thanks to Microsoft.

Good-Luck

-Eric
