TAPI = Telephone Application Programming Interface and
TSAPI (Telephone Server Application Interface) is the one that works over an internet connection, and yes, that is doable along with TAPI as well.
But there are some drawbacks in todays world.
The TAPI interface was provided by a PASSAGEWAY Direct Connect unit to a "DP" type of MLX phone, the output of the PASSAGEWAY went into a SERICAL Port of the PC.
It worked, and worked well, until Microsoft came out with XP, that is, it works with Windows 98, NOT XP.
That's a sad sad thing I must say 'cause I had a real use for it when I programmed Merlin Mail units.
Oh well, that's progress.
TSAPI was done by turning an MLX PORT into a "CTI LINK" and some additional HW and SW.
