tapeutil autoload function

We have an autoloader which is use for various backups, each using a specific slot and therefore the autoload is not switched on.
I now want to run a savevg command which requires more than one tape.
I found reference to command line 'tapeutil -f /dev/rmt0 autoload write -s filename', which is supposed to switch on the autoload facility for the specific command only.
However when I run this it tells me that the drive is not ready...

Any ideas ?

I guess it's beeing owned by your other backup utility at that time....
It will probably work once NOTHING is running on the drive at that time.

I have no backup utility.
It is all run through scripts using tapeutil.
there is nothing currently using the drive.

I think the 'drive not being ready' refers to the fact that it doesn't actually load a tape.

I am currently trying again with a 3 line script:
tapeutil -f.... load
tapeutil -f.... autoload
savevg ....

It's currently running the savevg, but going to be a while before I know if it swaps the tape.
I suspect it won't as I think the autoload and command have to be together, but it doesn't like savevg...;o(

can you set the tape unit to auto? sound like it might be set to manual
