I am having problems with two different tape drives at two different clients. I must be missing something when you buy new tapes. It shows the media and says that it is empty but I receive errors that "no unused media was available."

That is using the win 2000 sbs built in backup software.
I have tried backup exec 9 at both places and still nothing.

One is a onstream and the other is seagate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

using Veritas Backup exec. Put the tape in drive, then do an inventory on the drive. It should show the tape. You can also erase the tape. and it should be okay. tell us more..blonde

hi

I had exactly the same problem a week ago using Win2k backup - kept telling me the tape drive was empty when it obviously wasn't. I used Windows Update and updated the tape drive driver and it now recognises the tapes.

I have a similar problem. W2K Removable Media manager does not recognize any tapes.

There is a Microsoft KB article Q269600 that concerns HP tape drives, where tape is not recognized. Microsoft says it's due to too much memory in your computer. You should try switch /maxmem 128 in your boot.ini file. HAHH!

I'll try reapplying service pack 3.
