Help! I am having a problem with tapes. Every tape I have now appears as write protected even though it isn't. So the backups fail because it thinks the tapes are write protected. I can't format or erase the tapes either because it thinks they are write protected. Even new blank tapes are write protected.

I think it might be a hardware fault but it seems to read the tapes without problem apart from it think they are write protected.

Using:
ArcServe 6.61 (Build 897)
Windows NT 4 Server SP6a
HP Superstore DLT Autoloader

Anyone seen these problems before?

Thanks

Max

Hi Maxy,

A couple of options that I have tried before that may help...

1) Perform a Dismount / Mount of your tapes so that it properly inventories the tapes.
2) Power off the tape drive / server and reboot both to make sure there is not a hardware conflict.
3) Possibly (and most likely your problem) the Arcserve Database has become corrupted.

The last option is where I would honestly start by reinstalling Arcserve and reapplying the SP2A patch as well. I used to think it was a big pain but now it's not really that bad :)

Give it a shot and let me know how you make out.
