We have our servers sending out e-mail alerts for the backup results. that all works fine. However I would also like to receive an e-mail if the tapehead requires cleaning. Right now it only alerts to the console, which is not frequently checked....

any idea how to configure the alertmanager that it also sends an e-mail if tapehead cleaning is required ?

You can customize ARCserve to trigger on any event that is logged into the ARCserve activity log. Try to figure out which message corresponds with tape head cleaning and use the 'customized' event in the Alert option. Add the correct message (you can also use wildcards) and the Alerter will e-mail the message if it appears.

so the following entry in the log :
20030706 070025 153 Reschedule Prune Database Job for 7/07/03 at 7:00 AM.
20030706 073013 TAPE ***TapeAlert*** The following information is for Device[4]:
20030706 073014 TAPE W6909 The tape drive is due for routine cleaning:
1. Wait until the current operation is finished.
2. Then use a cleaning cartridge.

I have now inside the arcserve backup job configured a customized alert which triggers on the W6909 warning code.
So, this could result that inside 1 backup job 2 alerts are sent, one for the tape cleaning and one for the backup result ?

I check arcserve, and 6909 is not specificly for cleaning only : An error occurred after a SCSI command signaled completion. A specific error could not be assigned
but it seems you cannot filter it more out. I guess by reading the attached joblog I have to find out if the error is about cleaning ....
