Yes there is a verification for read/write or I/O operations. Hence the error code 84 which is media read/write error. If a drive has recurring errors then NetBackup will down the drive. If a media has too many errors then it will freeze the media. Check the all log entries report.

Is it doing it somehow on the fly or is there a log I can look at? Backup Exec has a nice windows where you could look at tape drive stats for errors and a separate job to run a verification on the tape when the backup is done. Is it not done that way with NBU?
