Hello

I have a problem with backup on UNIX - Sybase. could somebody tell me what's wrong and how to fix it. Thanks.

When I backup the first database (called admin) using command: dump database admin to tapedump with init, and it is ok, when I backup the second database (call master) on the same tape using command: dump database master to tapedump, it seems like the first session of the database goes through, then the next session message display to tell me using the backup session ID 52 , blah blah..., I use the next command as you will see below to continue the backup as usual, however, I get error message. Here is the error message:
1> sp_volchanged 52, 'dev/rmt/0n', 'proceed'
2> go
Backup Server: 4.4.2.1: Device dev/rmt/0n does not belong to session <52>. Notification failed.
(0 rows affected)
(return status = -2)

Next I decide to redo everything from the beginning, but it becomes worse than before, here is the error message:

1> dump database master to tapedump with init
2> go
WARNING: In order to LOAD the master database, the SQL Server must run in single-user mode. If the master database dump uses multiple volumes, you must execute sp_volchanged on another SQL Server at LOAD time in order to signal volume changes.
Backup Server session id is: 64. Use this value when executing the 'sp_volchanged' system stored procedure after fulfilling any volume change request from the Backup Server.
Backup Server: 4.55.2.1: Device validation error: couldn't open raw device /dev/rmt/0n, error: Device busy
Msg 8009, Level 16, State 1:
Server 'WRDBQ1', Line 1:
Error encountered by Backup Server. Please refer to Backup Server messages for details.

- Also, is there any UNIX command to check the devices on-line?
Thanks
