I would like to hear your thoughts on tape restore on system crash.

I have a ultrium 200gb tape drive that runs a backup routine every night using native ntbackup and this works very well. I rotate tapes every week using a scheme of
tuesdayA,wednesdayA,etc and the next week would be TuesdayB,wednesdayb, etc.

my question is in case of a total crash and having to rebuild 2000 server will a fresh build recognize my tapes.

If you have then label on the outside then it shouldnt be a problem. Even if the physical tape labels were removed when you use ntbackup to inventory it should say "media created on" Unless you have used NTBACKUP to label the media. Either way once you catalog the tape you can figure out what dates/days the tapes may be from

Greetings,

I have a Dell server 2850 with Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller card. I connected the external HP tape backup Ultrium 448 into that SCSI card. When I rebooted the server, I saw it recognized the Adaptec and HP tape drive. However, when I run Tapeware bachup software in RedHat Linux Enterprise 3.0, it did not see any device to back up into tape. Do I need to mount the tape drive or anything else to make it work? Any help will be appreciated!
