Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good/reliable/not too expensive backup system for my 2 servers? We are a small office with 2 servers with less than 200GB of data. Tape or Disk? What is your experience with them?

Thanks!

I would take a look at some of the external drives being offered by Maxtor and Seagate. They use a Firewire or USB 2.0 interface and will offer quick reliable backup. They will self install when you plug in the firewire or USB 2.0 cable. Another option could be to install one or two extra internal Drives and use those for back ups.

Tape is also fine but takes a long time to backup and read data. My 2 cents.

Another option is to have/use extra drives (internal) in both servers .
Backup server A to spare drive in server B and vice versa.
( we do this on our lab servers )
Not a big chance that both servers fail at the same time .
To increase the security of this you could have one
maxtor external drive sized to hold both servers ,and do a e.g monthly backup to this one.

(tape drives are expensive)
