I have updated Backup exec to its latest software. But, I am having a problem with the tape being identified in the program. I am using Windows 2000 server.

For example: I can start Backup exec and put a formatted tape in the tape drive. It still shows the tape drive as empty. The only way I can identify the tape is to stop the services then restart the services for backup exec.

or I can put a full tape in the tape drive and it shows the last tape identification.

Can anyone help?

Whenever you put a new tape in, you need to INVENTORY it. Right click on the drive and select inventory.
