When we now insert a tape into our HP Surestore DAT40 drive, it ejects every tape almost immediately (within 2-3 seconds). The problem began a couple of months ago wherein the drive would eject a tape every once in a while, but the problem has become so frequent that now every tape is ejected, even cleaning tapes. Any tips or comments would be very much appreciated!

A drive failing to accept tapes could be a problem with the firmware.What I would advise is to Download the Hp Storageworks Library and Tapetools..I persume you are on a windows operating system..URL for the diagnostics
Install the diagnostics.select the icon on your desktop and continue.the test will perform a scan and recongnise the drive as C5683A which is a generic model number..double click on the drive and it will bring up information about the drive..If the Firmware is C111 or below then click on the firmware icon,select the drive and then use the get firmware from web..The diagnostics will browse the web and download the latest firmware..then just update the firmware and try run the tests..
IF still failing to accept tapes and the drive is under 3 years then contact HP technical support to get it replaced.
