Hi

Does anyone know what commands/methods are available to configure a Tape drive?..

Regards
Raj

boot -r should allow you to see the drive (most of them).
What kind of configuration are you talking about ?
If you are talking about compression or things like that, You have to chosse the device correctly.
ex /dev/rmt/0c will compress. Too bad I.T. is not cash business

Hi Luc,

I appologise for my vague question...a friend of mine asked me to enquire...

He basically needs to know - How to change the Block settings ie to 0?.

What OS and what type of drive?

The configuration is in /kernel/drv/st.conf, but certain drives are built-in and do not require configuration, others do. And, depending on your drive/application you may want to over-ride the standard config.

look into the "mt" command ... stands for 'magnetic tape' ...

should show all commands relating the controlling the tape ...

if you want to use it for backup and restore though, you'll want to look at a few backup commands like 'ufsdump' 'tar' and (ick) 'cpio'

You can go /etc and cd /dev/rmt.Then you just issue at # drvconfig;tapes;devlinks. This would initialize the device if it is of the external tape drive.Hope this helps.

Please be more specific.
Is the OS Solaris 2.6, 7, or 8?
Is the tape drive a DLT 4000, 7000, or 8000?
