WARNING: LSS_SGE on ha=1, dsp=FEBFC6EC dcmd_dbc=781d0000 dsa=FEBFC008 dsps=00000000 !!!

Tape is configured as:
type=S ha=1 id=2 lun=0 bus=0 ht=slha

Several of our newer SCO systems, running 5.0.6 are getting this warning on the 1st access of the SCSI tape drive after a boot. Any access of the tape drive following the 1st, does not generate this warning. The SCSI controller is Symbios ht=slha. It doesn't seem to cause any problems and the backups are verifying fine. I can't find anything on Caldera or here about this. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this?

It's quite normal for the driver to spit out info about the tape at first access, but if this really includes the !!! then I'd say the driver is upset about something it sees in the tape hardware.

If you are using one of the Supertars ( - and if you aren't you should be!) , run it by them- they'd surely recognize it.
