Hi Folks,

my Bull box has recently refused to recognise the tape drive /dev/str. I've tried rebooting it (I know this sometimes helps the box rediscover 'lost' devices), but this doesn't appear to have made any difference. Can anyone give me any clues about how I can determine what's happening, please?

TIA

Ken

Sorry, should have given the output of the mt -f /dev/str status command if this helps. This is:

lsattr: 0514-519 The following device was not found in the customized device configuration database:
str

Thanks

what does the output from a lsdev -C show? Is the device listed? Is it Defined or Available? You could try running a cfgmgr, but a re-boot should have had the same affect. If this is an external tape drive check the SCSI ID to see if it is still set correctly.
Check all the cabling to make sure it is getting power and the SCSI cable is secure on each end.

If the output of lsdev -Cc tape show the status as defined then u meight want to run cfgmgr -i tape and then check the status again.

Thanks folks, your advice is much appreciated. Unfortunately, it transpires that we seem to have a dead tape drive on our hands and an engineer is winging his/her way to fix it as we speak (I hope!).

Thnaks again.
