I recently changed the tape drive on a HP L class machine ( 9000 series) as I noticed some errors in the syslog.log after changing the tape drive, I cannot write anything onto a new tape, I get the following errors

tar -cvf /dev/rmt/0m

tar: cannot open /dev/rmt/0m

However ioscan shows:

ioscan -fnC tape

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description

=====================================================================

tape 0 0/0/1/0.3.0 stape NO_HW DEVICE HP C1537A

/dev/rmt/0m /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTn

/dev/rmt/0mb /dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTnb

/dev/rmt/0mn /dev/rmt/c0t3d0DDS

/dev/rmt/0mnb /dev/rmt/c0t3d0DDSb

/dev/rmt/c0t3d0BEST /dev/rmt/c0t3d0DDSn

/dev/rmt/c0t3d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c0t3d0DDSnb

In the syslog.log:

smsc5 EMS [2728]: ------ EMS Event Notification ------ Value:

"CRITICAL (5)" for Resource: "/storage/events/tapes/SCSI_tape/0_0_1_0.3.0" (

Threshold: >= " 3") Execute the following command to obtain event details:

/opt/resmon/bin/resdata -R 178782213 -r /storage/events/tapes/SCSI_tape/0_0_1_0

.3.0 -n 178782212 -a

I thought that the device files have been corrupted

so I used

insf -H 0/0/1/0.3.0 -e but I cannot still access it.

I am trying to get HP support, Guys any help is greatly appreciated. I do not have the tape model I am trying to get it.
