I undertsand that every time a tape is written to the tape is marked so that the tape can only be written to x times. Does there exist any software that can extract this information and display the number of times the tape has been written to?
Thanks in advance

Suspect that this is a feature of some backup program. Have never run across it in any SCO OS. With SCO you can keep using the tape until it wears out/breaks/despools, at least with all the QIC stuff I've used.

I agree with Ed. We have used scsi and ide tape drives in our systems with daily backups. Some tapes are three years old, some only make 6-8 months.
